Economista y político español.

Hijo de Manuel Tamames, doctor en Medicina y Cirugía y de Carmen Gómez. Tuvo cuatro hermanos. Catedrático de Estructura Económica, desde 1968, primero, en la Facultad de Málaga y desde 1975, en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. En marzo de 1992, fue nombrado Catedrático Jean Monnet, por la Comunidad Europea.

Ingresó en el Partido Comunista de España, en 1956. Miembro del Comité Ejecutivo desde 1976, elegido diputado por Madrid, en 1977 y 1979. Entre 1979 y 1981, fue concejal y primer Teniente de Alcalde del Ayuntamiento de Madrid, durante la Alcaldía de Enrique Tierno Galván.

En 1981, abandonó el PCE, para fundar en diciembre de 1984, la Federación Progresista, participando en la creación de Izquierda Unida, en 1986. En 1987, ingresó en el Centro Democrático y Social (CDS) aunque, al poco tiempo, abandonó la política.

Carmen Gómez and Manuel Tamames' son, who had a PhD in Medicine and Surgery. Ramón has four brothers, and was head of department in Economic Structure, firstly in the Faculty of Malaga from 1968, and then, from 1975, in the Autónoma University of Madrid. On March 1992, he was appointed Jean Monnet head of department by the European Community.

Tamames joined the Spanish Communist Party in 1956. He was a member of the Executive Board from 1976, and was elected deputy for Madrid in 1977 and 1979. Between 1979 and 1981, he was a councilor and first deputy mayor of the Council of Madrid, during Tierno Galván's city hall.

In 1981, Tamames left PCE to found the Progressive Federation on December 1984, and taking part in the creation of United Left-Wing in 1986. In 1987 he joined Social and Democratic Centre (CDS), although he left politics shortly after.
